Wheely Big Year

As we roll into a new year the cold, rainy, muddy season is well and truly here. Whether we like it or not it's here and this is where true passion and motivation comes in. Where my head tells me to snuggle in my onesie by the log burner with the dogs as a blanket, my heart wants to get out on this amazing new bike i've bought. Yes, I have gone and finally come to my senses and bought a new bike!

This new bike has been a long time coming. Until recently i've been riding a Giant Anthem. It's a great little machine that has done many many miles, but I was ready for a change. I needed something bouncy so that I could bounce my way down those trails.

I've been away from the cycling scene for a good few years and so much has changed. For starters the wheels are now bigger and the 1x drivetrain seems to be the norm on a lot of mountain bikes. My urge for a new bike came at a similar time to starting a new job with Trek Bikes. Lots had definitely changed and I needed to catch up.

Welcome to the world, Trek Remedy. It's a beautiful bike to look at and to ride. It's a whole new experience of riding. Just sitting on it I felt like I could shred the trails with style. Well, in my head I could! I also updated my kit with the some Fox clothing.

I can't have a new bike without new kit. Most of my clothing is for road cycling which i've been doing more of the past few years.

The first things I noticed and loved about the bike were the bigger wheels. The old style 26" wheel size has been replaced with a 27.5" or a whopping 29". These wheels plough over everything. Why didn't someone think of this years ago. Blimin brilliant idea. Sometimes the simple things make the biggest difference.

Coming from downhill racing background I knew straight away the Remedy would be the one for me. Although after having the opportunity to test ride the Fuel EX and the Top Fuel first, my decision was almost swayed to the Fuel EX. That bike can take on the same gnarly trails but the Remedy takes the edge off the bigger stuff! It reminds me of my downhill bikes but is also capable of climbing the hills too. Marvellous!

So far in just a few months the new machine has taken me to so many fun trails. I can't lie, since working for Trek I haven't stopped dreaming of more bikes to keep Remedy company. Once upon a time I had 9 bikes when I was racing at my prime. So I think another couple is needed eventually!

I have had a wobbly few years not racing and recently got a bit lost somewhere along the way. Life has ways of telling us what's important and worth fighting for.

This new bike is much more than just another bike. To me, it's my true passion and has put me back on the right path. I can't wait to see where these new wheels will take me. Whether that's riding at my local trails or the Alpes, i'll be in my happy place.
